This booklet comprises 24 technical papers provided on the fourth version of the Advances in Architectural Geometry convention, AAG 2014, held in London, England, September 2014. It bargains engineers, mathematicians, designers, and contractors perception into the effective layout, research, and manufacture of complicated shapes, with a view to support open up new horizons for architecture.

The publication examines geometric facets keen on architectural layout, starting from preliminary perception to ultimate fabrication. It makes a speciality of 4 key subject matters: utilized geometry, structure, computational layout, and in addition perform within the kind of case reviews. additionally, the publication additionally positive aspects algorithms, proposed implementation, experimental effects, and illustrations.

Overall, the ebook offers either theoretical and sensible paintings associated with new geometrical advancements in structure. It gathers the varied elements of the modern architectural traits that push the development envelope in the direction of unfastened shape with a purpose to reply to a number of present layout challenges.

With its creation of novel computational algorithms and instruments, this publication will turn out a fantastic source to either newbies to the sector in addition to complex practitioners.

Milled guides control the two remaining variables including: the inaxis rotation and alignment of the frame segments (Fig. 10). This assembly system minimises material use and complexity of parts by embedding multiple fabrication constraint into a single construction guide while providing a high degree of reconfigurability by employing the inherent flexibility in a robotic set-up. Modular Fibrous Morphologies 41 Fig. 10 Diagram of adjustable effector stand and milled guides that define component vertices The use of two corresponding robots benefits the fabrication process in several ways.

In order to investigate the structural potential of the principle, simple fracture tests were carried out (Fig. 7, Left). The experiments indicated that there is a torque capacity of the structure during construction. In the tests, a 4 mm threaded rod was used, and the height dimension (thickness) of the concrete was 80 mm. The tests showed that it is the tension rod that breaks before the concrete is crushed, which Fig. 6 Left: early studies of detail in the centre of each element (a). Right: final scheme (b).

Structural rigidity and weight reduction, within an evolutionary morphogenetic process led to the development of a multi-functional lightweight material system. The material efficiency of the system is based on anisotropic organisation of chitin fibre composite material which forms a double layered shell and is coupled by trabeculae, internal bracing structures (Fig. 2). The geometric articulation of this lightweight construction was studied through microcomputer tomographic scans which were conducted at the ANKA/Institute for photon science and synchrotron radiation and electron microscopy scans by the Department of Evolutionary Biology of Invertebrates in Tübingen.
